Learn the Ropes: Intro to Ski Mountaineering

Learn technical ski mountaineering techniques in this 2-day dynamic and rewarding course led by IFMGA/AMGA Guide Chris Marshall.  Day 1 focuses on ice axe and rope use training for climbing and descending.  Day 2 will apply those skills to tackle a local peak or steep terrain, depending on conditions, allowing students to feel confident in tackling bigger and more advanced ski objectives

Prerequisites:

  • Advanced or Expert skiing/riding ability

  • Ability to ski in control in various snow conditions while wearing a pack.

  • Good physical fitness:  the ability to climb 1000’/hr for over 6hrs

  • Previous backcountry skiing experience, including skinning on various terrain features.

  • Familiarity with basic climbing knots
